In Windows XP, right click your desktop, then select "Customise Desktop" from the "Desktop" tab. You can then choose your icons for things like My Computer, My Documents, Network Neighbourhood and Recycle Bin. Choose the .icl file and then you should be able to pick any of the 16 icons above to replace your selected default icon.
Bear in mind that these icons look better at higher resolutions.
